Humane gas stunning of slaughter pigs in the dip-lift and paternoster system (TIGER)
In the "Human-Friendly Gas Stunning of Slaughter Pigs in Dip-Lift and Paternoster Systems" (TIGER) project, argon, an argon-nitrogen mixture, and mixtures with 0–30% CO2 were investigated in a commercial dip-lift system to assess their suitability for animal welfare and meat quality. A new and patented gassing system was used, achieving a residual oxygen content of < 1%.
